SMART Solid Red Light
When your SMART Board (SB) is operating correctly there is a small green light on the lower right-hand side of the board. If it is a solid red light the SB is getting power from the PC, but not working correctly. To correct this, try one or both of the following:
1. Reboot your PC. Once you log back in and wait a moment for the PC to completely start up the light should turn to a solid green on the SB.
2. Check the USB cable going from the back of the SB all the way to your computer. The cable is often daisy-chained all the way to your computer. Make sure each connection is solidly connected. Sometimes it comes loose at the SB – so that first and work your way back to the computer. Each time you touch the cable look at the red light on the SB to see if it turns back on to green.
3. If steps 1 and 2 don’t work, try moving the SB USB cable on the back of the computer to another port. Wait a moment and see if the light goes back to green. Your computer may make a few “boing” noises as it re-discovers the SB device. After about 20-30 seconds the light should turn from red to green. Sometimes rebooting is necessary again.
If none of these steps work, contact your school IT folks for assistance.
