Live Scribe Pulse SmartPen

If you have problems transferring from the pen you may get the error

"Transfer Error". The following items failed to transfer...

Note: Make sure you know your livescribe online username/password or to go livescribe.com and click login on the top right-hand and have it send you email with a link to reset your password (if you can't remember it).

The follow these steps:
  1. Undock the pen.
  2. Close the Livescribe application.
  3. Exit from the Livescribe system task tray.
  4. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data and rename the Livescribe folder to something else.
  5. Start up Livescrive application
  6. Dock the pen

It should now rebuild the folder and begin transferring the sessions and audio from the pen successfully... During this process it will ask for your Livescribe online username/password so make sure you know it beforehand.

This process can easily take 15 minutes if you have a fair amount of sessions recorded on your pen so be patient!

Erratic Pen movement

Occasionally you will experience a smartboard that doesn't seem to work right. The pen won't draw a straight horizontal or vertical line. Should this happen the problem may lie with how it is mounted to a wall.

Smart Technical support claims that the board can pick up stray radio frequencies if it comes in contact with metal - like a chalkboard tray. The tray will act as an antenna and confuse the smartboard controller.

Find a way to mount the board such that the metal mounts (on the bottom) don't come in contact with any external metal sources and the problem will usually go away.

SMART Lights on pen tray flashing in sequence

If this is happening the phone-jack cable may be loose on the bottom of the tray. Look for a gray cable and unplug it, count to 10, then click your heel three times and plug it back in. The tray lights should stop blinking.

Projector bulb

Sometimes the projectors overheat. After giving it some cool down time you may have to try a few things. Be careful because the bulbs and internal parts can get real hot!

1. Try unplugging the power and let it sit for a few minutes.
2. Get some compressed air and blow out the internal fan.
3. Clean the filter or replace it.
4. If the projector still overheats or the bulb seems dim or won't go on at all - e.g. the thermal/bulb light blinks red or is solid, then you may have to replace the bulb with correct replacement bulb.

I keep EPSON bulbs and compressed air in the bottom drawer file cabinet behind me.
There are spare working EPSON projectors in the cabinet near the Channel 1 TV/player. These projectors are old, but could work in a pinch.

Scanning objects and using them in SB Notebook

If youve scanned a document and then tried to insert the scanned image into a Notebook file to use on your SMART Board (SB) you may have found that doing anything on that page is real slooowww. Writing, moving objects, or even scrolling down that page is just too slow. Drats you say!

But, theres a better way: using floating tools!

Once youve scanned the image with a scanner, go back to your PC where there is a SB attached so that you can use the Floating Tools (they are only available on a computer with a working SB attached). Now, instead of inserting the jpeg file directly into Notebook, use the floating tools: Capture Area icon to capture the scanned image to a Notebook file. You do this by finding and opening the scanned image file, then use the Capture Area tool and drag a box around the part of the image (or the whole thing) and let go it will automatically insert the image in a new notebook file or the one you have open already.

Using the Capture Area tool makes the page work speedy and writing, moving objects and scrolling works like a charm.

Mason

SMART Solid Red Light

When your SMART Board (SB) is operating correctly there is a small green light on the lower right-hand side of the board. If it is a solid red light the SB is getting power from the PC, but not working correctly. To correct this, try one or both of the following:

1. Reboot your PC. Once you log back in and wait a moment for the PC to completely start up the light should turn to a solid green on the SB.

2. Check the USB cable going from the back of the SB all the way to your computer. The cable is often daisy-chained all the way to your computer. Make sure each connection is solidly connected. Sometimes it comes loose at the SB so that first and work your way back to the computer. Each time you touch the cable look at the red light on the SB to see if it turns back on to green.

3. If steps 1 and 2 dont work, try moving the SB USB cable on the back of the computer to another port. Wait a moment and see if the light goes back to green. Your computer may make a few boing noises as it re-discovers the SB device. After about 20-30 seconds the light should turn from red to green. Sometimes rebooting is necessary again.

If none of these steps work, contact your school IT folks for assistance.

SMART Flashing Red Light

If you see a flashing red light on your SMART Board (not your projector), it means the SMART Board Service is not running. To fix this try either one of the following:
1. Reboot. This usually fixes it.
2. Restart the service by:
  • On your Desktop, Right-click on My Computer and click "Manage".
  • Click on Services, then click "Services" under the Services and Applications section.
  • Scroll down and find the "SMART Board Service".
  • The status column for this service should state: "Started".
  • If it does not, right-click and choose "Start".
  • The greent light should now light up after a moment.
  • Close out the Computer Management program and enjoy.

If it's still flashing, try moving plugging the SMART Board USB cable into another port on the back of your computer and reboot.

If it's still flashing, contact Euclid IT support.
